How to measure your window correctly

Seven simple steps and a fill-in table — print it or save it as a PDF.

  1. Use a steel tape measure — not a ruler or a sewing tape.
  2. Measure the width at three points (top, middle, bottom) and write down each value.
  3. Measure the height at three points (left, middle, right) and write down each value.
  4. Decide how you will mount it: inside the window recess or in front of it on the wall.
  5. Measure the depth of the recess and check for obstacles: handles, radiators, window sill.
  6. For inside mounting use the smallest value; for mounting in front use the largest value and add an allowance.
  7. Compare your sizes with the product's listed dimensions. For film measure the glass only; then use the Material Calculator for quantities.
