Window privacy in a rental – without drilling
Prying eyes, but your landlord does not want holes in the frame? Four ways work without drilling and can be removed without residue.
First, check what is allowed
Read your lease: drilling into window frames or masonry normally needs the landlord's consent. Stick-on and clamp solutions that remove without residue are usually fine. This is not legal advice – if in doubt, ask.
The four ways
1) Static-cling window film: sticks to the glass without adhesive and can be repositioned. 2) Pleated blind with clamp or adhesive holders. 3) Tension rod with a curtain or café curtain. 4) A free-standing mashrabiya-style screen that changes nothing at the window.
Measure correctly
For film, measure the glass and allow 2–3 cm extra, then trim cleanly. For clamp blinds, the clear glass size and the frame depth the clamp grips matter. Our planner calculates size and quantity; a laser distance measure makes it easier.
Removing without residue
Peel film slowly from a corner. Warm adhesive strips with a hairdryer and pull parallel to the surface, not forward. Test on an inconspicuous spot first.
